“When a leader at any level truly has done the work

(and believe me it takes work) to connect with his or her people, you witness sincere loyalty, appreciation, and work ethic.”

My Story

How I got here and my hope for the future...

Like many of you, my story has many twists and turns. ‘Chapter One’ is set on the Canadian prairies as a student and athlete dabbling in the service industry and finding a love for relationships, sport, service and human behavior.

I then move into a very exciting ‘Chapter Two’ with an adventure abroad to complete my time as a university student and begin my professional life as a Special Education teacher on the east coast of the USA.

Not to be outdone, ‘Chapter Three’ opens with a new last name and a move to the Colorado Rockies. This is where I spend more time doing what I love - serving others both as Recreation Director in long term care and then as an Early Childhood Educator in a very special preschool. The lessons in life, humanity, communication and relationships across the lifespan became a passion.

‘Chapter Four’ brings us back to Saskatchewan to begin a major life change...I add “Mom” to my resume! I am now in a whole new level of service. But chapter four also includes a major shift in my professional life, we purchase an insurance brokerage and again, I am serving others but in a new industry. This setting is more complicated than the my previous experiences and gives me a whole new understanding of how important connection and communication are in all types of relationships. Insurance is not a “feel good” industry that consumers are familiar with. You have to navigate difficult situations and hard conversations on a daily basis, and over the last 13 years I have made it my mission to ensure my clients and employees feel heard and understood. This chapter also includes my most favorite area of service outside of motherhood, and that is volunteering and coaching minor sport. I have spent most of my time outside of work volunteering on numerous boards including the Insurance Brokers Association of Saskatchewan and the Hockey Saskatchewan Board of Directors, however my favorite volunteer role by far is coaching. We as coaches, have such an incredible opportunity to positively influence our athletes’ social, emotional, mental and physical development. I believe, as you will see in my “Beyond Xs and Os” program, that sport is a blueprint for life and we need to ensure the architects of those plans are giving our young athletes the tools they need to build the best lives possible.

That brings us to my newest chapter, ‘Chapter Five’. My experiences and education have built a great passion and talent for leadership, but not just any kind of leadership. It’s a kind of leadership that inspires, builds confidence and pride. It also increases performance, emotional intelligence and buy-in through connection and service to others. This newest chapter of my story is where I share my philosophy and strategies with you, welcome to Nicole Korpusik Leadership Consulting!
